Does sustainability make your employees more entrepreneurial?
To help implement solutions for sustainability it is clear that entrepreneurship needs to come from within organisations.
An article by Jamie Palmer for BITC sparked our interest in how entrepreneurial employees use the organisations they are a part of to have a larger impact on society than they could do alone.
Through working with some of our FTSE100 clients it is clear that organisational cultures are changing to embrace corporate responsibility, so as a result, does this mean more entrepreneurial employees?
‘Intrapreneurs’ as they’re called, innovate like entrepreneurs whilst inside of organisations. Their characteristics could include: problem solving, adaptability & idea generation. It could be seen that engaging employees with communities & charitable activities allows them to develop and practice entrepreneurial characteristics. Employee volunteering is all about problem solving in a new environment. Being in new environments means having to generate new ideas and follow through on their implementation. Employees improve upon their team and leadership skills whilst volunteering or fundraising for charities, often bringing back new-found confidence to the workplace.
In the approach to COP21 next week, sustainability seems to be at a point where entrepreneurial individuals are needed more than ever.
Sustainability is known for its complexity, so if within organisations entrepreneurship could be nurtured, they could be helped on the way to finding & implementing solutions. Implementing solutions is key. At GivingForce we're working with corporate clients and their employees to implement our employee engagement solution, the GivingForce portal, within corporate citizenship. Indirectly, we wonder if our portal might be helping to grow entrepreneurship within organisations.
It would be interesting to hear your own experiences of how corporate citizenship might have helped to make your employees more entrepreneurial?
